Ensure you are dealing with a licensed funeral director and funeral home when making funeral prearrangements. In Michigan, funeral directors are required to place 100% of the preneed funds in a third party escrow. It is safe, transferable and refundable. It's still your money until time of need and can only be canceled by you the consumer. All members of the Michigan Funeral Directors Association (MFDA) are fully licensed and maintain a strict code of ethics. Commissioned sales people may or may not be licensed funeral directors nor affiliated with a licensed funeral home.
The Michigan Funeral Directors Association (MFDA) and the Michigan Attorney General will give further consumer protection information, much of which has been crafted by funeral directors.
